Mission statement: To promote friendship between Britain and Scandinavia. To support Scandinavians living or moving to the North East, to help them maintain links with their homelands, act as a social centre for Scandinavians (and their families and friends, and anybody who felt at home In the society) and to spread knowledge about Scandinavian language, culture, history etc. We are non-religious and non-political, but through our own individual and personal backgrounds and interests, and in our programme, we express views that are recognisably 'Scandinavian'.
We believe that through our programme we contribute to the cultural and social life of the North East. History: Society founded 1st November 1950. Patron: Kate Adie OBE. Membership: About 100 members. Danes, Norwegians, Finns, Swedes, British. Meetings: Monthly. Newsletters: Yes.
