I would like to draw your members’ attention to a symposium the British Museum will be hosting on Friday 14 June 2019, to coincide with the exhibition Edvard Munch: love and angst. We will announce registration details and our list of speakers soon, so for now we only ask that anyone interested saves the date.

The Finnish conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen (and Founder and Artistic Director of the annual Baltic Sea Festival) is together with Nile Rodgers awarded the 2024 Polar Music Prize. This prize was founded in 1989 by Stig ”Stikkan” Anderson, the
publisher, lyricist and manager of ABBA. The prize money is approx. £75,000 GBP.

The Royal Society of Arts, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Institute London, the Delegation of Flanders (Embassy of Belgium) in the UK and Ireland, Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland, the Cyprus High Commission and EUNIC London (European Union National Institutes for Culture), will host a discussion on:
Global environmental challenges: Lessons from Ukraine discussion event
What can other parts of the world learn from Ukraine, as it pioneers bringing acts of ecocide into the discussion of justice in the context of war?
The speakers include Marjukka Porvari who works as an environmental expert at the European Commission’s Ukraine Service under the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations. Marjukka Porvari has over 20 years of experience of working for the third sector, central government and research institutions, focusing especially on environmental issues in Eastern Europe.
